New Project

Well, I have gone thru several phases of the grief process about Belinda leaving (I'm sure I will do it all again when she actually goes) and I have moved on to acceptance. I wanted to make something special for her before she goes.
Belinda is a committed Christian, so I thought I would go with a cross theme. I really hope the cross is not to contrived. I know God is very important in her life, but not being a part of my life, the cross is all I really know. We did a sculpture workshop a while ago, and she was going to do a cross for her garden, but decided it would look a bit like a grave stone, so I am going with that knowledge, and hoping that a cross will be appropriate.
The plan so far is to embellish, and then make into a wallhanging. I am not a technical sew-er ( the hyphen cos otherwise it is sewer! Is there no such word as sew..er?), so the shape may cause problems. But, with a little help from above (as I am assured that He does look out for all of us), I am sure it will all work out.

Jo, your CQ cross will be wonderful as is everything that you do! It will such a lovely gift and your friend will cherish it I'm sure!

Thanks for pointing us in the direction of the ric/rac roses. Chelle emailed me with basic directions and now with Sharon's tutorial, I absolutely have to do this! In fact, I have miles and miles of vintage (cotton) white ric/rac. I'm feeling the need to hand-paint it. Like I need one more thing to do!!!

Hugs,

Pam (kitty & me)

Oh Jo that is a very sweet thing to do for your friend it brought tears to my eyes! As a Christian the cross is very important, it is a symbol and reminder of what Jesus did for us on the cross! When he died on the cross he paid for everyone's sin forever so all we have to do is ask for forgiveness and receive it, because of that when we look at the cross we see God's amazing love for each person.
If you'd like to find out a little more this link is a cool one:

I can't wait to see how you embellish it I'm sure it's going to be beautiful! You are a very sweet friend!

Hi Jo

I'm sure your friend will love it and you will do your usual excellent job of stitching. You might want to include a butterfly or two. It is a symbol of rebirth and I always put one on baptism gowns I make. I think it works for that meaning if you are christian or not.
Good Luck!

That is a wonderful idea Jo. I am sure your friend will cherish that cross. I'm with you on the religion -it is not for me, but I try to respect the folks who do believe.

About the other bit of your post... Years ago I read about someone proposing the term 'sewist' in place of sew-er or seamstress or whatever. Her argument included the word 'artist' and other similar terms that don't come to my feeble mind at the moment. Made sense to me at the time but I never adopted the term myself.

What a lovely idea and perhaps an excellent opportunity to knock out a couple of ric rac roses?
