Guest Spot

The Magnificent Mary Corbet, over on Needle'n Thread has featured a post by me. I am quite chuffed about this as I know Mary has a large readership that covers a wide range of 'needle' techniques (not just CQers).
It is a new post (as in, not just rehashed from here) so do pop over if you are interested. The focus of the article is on my "retail" adventures.

Speaking of which, I just packaged up 3 bags, and though I LOVE that they are sold, I actually find it really hard to part with them. Do find this too, even if something is made specifically for sale?

I have had a great day!!

...which actually started last night when my best bud rang to say they were moving back to Auckland in two weeks. Two weeks!! I am so excited. I couldn't afford to go visit these school holidays so I was a bit sad, but this is just the  best news.
Then this morning I managed to get my favourite bras, in my size, Yay. All you gals know how important this is right? When you find a bra you love, you stick with it it, and these are seriously the most comfy bra I have ever come across as well as being ...urrhumm ... uplifting.
Then I did the shopping, boring boring, but I came home to find a whole lot a mail, lots of the paisley swap motifs I am guessing, but I didn't open them yet, cos I got mail from my mum, which is really weird right, as she can phone, and I could tell it was papers and I thought,  it's proably a will or family trust stuff...but this is what I found

Issue 67 of the New Zealand Quilter. Mum usually gives me a copy of these when she is in them, but a quick browse and I found this

See that tiny little squidge of my quilt?? How exciting. I am guessing mum had something to do with this, but she didn't let on to me. There was also an article about the POST stitch exhibition which my seascape postcard was in, but not lucky enough to get a mention there, but wow, in a little place like NZ, if I was mentioned twice in one issue, that would just about make me I think. LOL

So , as Sponge Bob would say "it's the best day eee-vvveerrrrrrr". Brookies birthday tomorrow, then holidays, then hanging with my BFF to look forward to.

some shameless self promotion

The latest issue of CQMagOnline is now out. There are some fabulous articles in this issue...and a couple from moi!
First I wrote about a recent Round Robin I was in, and the format that we used. A Little different from the usual. You will find that here.
Next was a last minute tip I thought others might find useful, so I shot it off to Rissa, and she included it. That is here.
Do take the time to browse this wonderful resource, and consider submitting something yourself. Its fun!!

February

While the computer is co-operating I will get the February freebie up. Hearts this month, for valentines day. Purely a coincidence, but one that worked out nicely. The hand dyed fabbie had a heart shape in it, so I pieced and embellished inspired by that. As per January, leave a comment, and when I think I have enough, I will do a draw.
Below is a selection of what is to come over the year. These were my little stitching projects over the holidays. A few of these in my Dilmah Tea tin, and a selection of threads, and I was set. CQ to go. The leaf one I stitched while having a day at the beach. Beautiful little place called Waiti (little water). Rob fished, the kids lounged in rock pools, and I sat in the shade and stitched. Bliss.
To those lovely ladies that left comments saying that you had promo'd my giveaway on your blogs, please don't. My giveaways are for my readers, and if you don't do CQ, then really they are of no value or worth to those who are simply looking to get something for free. I appreciate the sentiment, but would prefer you didn't do it. You may yourselves comment for the giveaway personally, just please don't advertise it on your 'giveaway' blogs. TY

We are almost back to normal. School starts on Monday, although Brooke is getting her grommets on that day. We have had 4 weeks of consecutive chicken pox, not all together at the same time, one after the other. 6weeks if you count my nephew who had them first over xmas. Then we all had a tummy bug, but through all that, we have had a lovely break. We got away to New Plymouth to see my best bud. The kids all (6 of them) held it together really well four 4 days, but that was enough, unfortunately for the adults. We will do it again though, soon hopefully.

And here is Jons latest facination. Don't let the expression fool you, he loves crabs. We have spent all holidays collecting crabs. The ones at Waiwera are small, about the size of your thumb nail would be a big one. This beauty was found at the Three Sisters, on the way to New Plymouth. Great spot, nothing there apart from a few baches, but when tide is out there are these fantastic caves, full of these crabs!! You wouldn't normally see them, they hide in crevices in the cliff face, but this one must have been on the way out, as it was floating around sedately in a tidal pool. I said I would get it for him, but no hesitation, he was in there, picking the damn thing up, and with no intention of putting it back down! Jon carried this (when it was still alive) about a kilometre back to the car. He got a couple of nips, didn't phase him at all. It then got put in a bag, because we "have to show Jakey". I found said crab, that we "have to show Jakey" 3 days later in the bottom of a bag I had packed essential food items in, milo, weetbix etc. 3 days! in January! inTaranaki! IT STUNK!!
Today we went to feed the ducks, and he was in the pond trying to catch an eel!! Gotta luv 'em.

Here is another block I will be working on over the next month or so. Over at CQI we have monthly challenges, and January was pieceing curves, and/or landscapes. This block covers both nicely. Allie Aller is the queen of curved piecing, in fact, I don't think she can sew a straight line-LOL- but I have a ways to go to get as good as her. This block is 6" and will be swapped with Ati.
Januarys CQMagOnline is out. I have another article in there. I have used the technique in the article to put the backing on my postcards. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to use the buttonhole function on my sewing machine, so the nice tidy edges and the heat'n'bond work really well for me. Even if you are not a CQer, check this ezine out, there is something for everyone there.

Well, I think that is more than enough for one post. Should I not reappear for a while, you know that my old faithful has gone to th floppy disc dump in the sky. I shall however sort out the giveaway winner on my return...if I go...you know....

Christmas Angels

Anne from Aussie sent me these pics of some angels she made, using my tutorial from CQMagOnline. They are great. She used a polystyrene cone to stabalise them. Thank you Anne, I appreciate you sending thru the pics, and even more that you used the tutorial!!

catch up

Firstly a big thank you to all of you who have left comments, and emailed me about my articles in CQMagonline. I really appreciate the feedback. I am pleased, and surprised at the response to the "My Style" article. The original draft was about 5 pages long, and I felt I had left alot out, and it was a bit "rushed", but I was also mindful of not taking your attention for too long, as there are many great articles in this issue. I have had wonderful pics of ornaments made from my tutorial sent to me. This is a real buzz, so thanks for taking the time, and please, submit them to the readers showcase for the next issue. I am working on my prezzie ornies for the whanau at the mo.

So, what else have I been doing?? Below is Leslie's Summer Breeze DYB. Sorry the pic is not good. Lots of beading and bits and pieces on this block.
And below are a couple of ATCs I made last week. Last year mums guild had an ATC exchange board at their annual show, so I whipped some up to swap this year, but they didn't do it...I can utilise these in a swap I am hosting, so not a wasted effort, in fact quite the opposite. I don't use my machine for much other than straight lines, and buttonholing the edges of these puppies was INCREDIBLY challenging. I need help ...
I spent the morning sewing up the Xmas ornies, I will spend the afternnon/evening embellishing. A new Amazing Race starts tonight. Fab!!

TOOT TOOT!!

That's me- tooting my own horn!
Several months ago I was invited to submit some articles to CQMagonline. They have just been published. How exciting for me!!
These are projects that you have not seen on my blog before, so you will have to go over and look.
Personal Style in CQ
is a little bit about me, which was no easy feat. It is difficult to talk about yourself, for me anyway.
T'is the Season and Gifts From the Scrap Bag are both christmas ornie tutorials.

Please be sure to read all the contributions for this issue. There are some truly talented, and generous (with their knowledge) ladies on the team. I am very humbled to be in print alongside them, and very proud of myself to have actually done it!

I would love your feedback and comments on these articles, and remember, CQmagonline loves to receive contributions , so be brave, give it a go....
