Halloween RR- Zandra's block

Well, after a slow start, wondering to myself why the heck did I pick a themed RR, I have completed Zandra's block. I think it has turned out pretty good. I particularly like my 'cobweb' , and a big old hairy spider, thanks to some great yarn I was sent in a squishie (thanks Christy).
I posted to the CQI list, that I worry I take over the blocks I do, my embellishment always seems to be BIG , but i also think that I have been the first or second to work on blocks so far, I haven't gotten to the third and forth rotations, where I guess space will be more limited. I do count the seams, and try to make sure there is at least 2 per person to do.

On to Zandra's block, and my work.
Here is the whole block. I am first to work on Zandra's block, so all the work is mine. The cat is my first attempt at 'long and short' stitch, although I did use perle 8 cotton. that may be cheating. I like the way it turned out. It is a good solid motif! I had a terrible time with the head, and it still isn't right, but I think you will all know it is a cat...right??

I spent a while this arvo on flickr looking at more 'realistic' cobwebs, rather than the usual perfect, spiraled spider web. I like the outcome.
Here is spidey. He is made from some great fancy wool, with like a (not metallic) but shiny plasticy thread woven thru it. It catches the light and is really very effective for a big, hairy spider. The diamante is one of T's G-string bling I posted about a long time ago.
Below is a close up of the brooms I did along the upper seam, the broom 'stick' is a long bullion stitch. I saw a similar thing done on a Wizard of Oz RR block recently, and thought they were great.

This is spectacular! Your spider web is really something else... I've been trying to do more realistic spider webs and haven't been able to quite capture it but you certainly have. Love the cat watching... all around perfect!
