Lily's block

This is the start of my block for Lily. Lily has a website, Fabricarts, and I offered to make a block using some of her laces, motifs , ribbons, etc to showcase how they can be used, and she can put pictures on her site. The motifs are not attched yet, but all the lace and trim is sewn in. I did toy with the idea of dying the laces, but I have not tried my dye kit yet, and didn't want to risk it, so you have a block from me that will have white on it!! I know, unheard of...but it will be interesting to see where this takes me. I have all the gorgeous hannah ribbons to use in there somewhere, there will be lots of beading and sparkle.

I am particularly pleased with the fan. I'm not a sane quilter, so measuring and points aren't my strong suit, so this eyeballed fan worked out just great. All the fabric is silk dupioni, mostly venice lace, and the block size is 10"x10".

I have started stitching, so watch this space....

You can't get off this easy! You simply must make a second block with hand dyed/painted laces. Get your kit out. It is soooo much fun!

Piecing looks great, and so does the lace. I think the undyed will be fine. I often leave them natural, so to speak. However, I have the Ozedyes and I love them. It's really, *really* easy. Go play!

I've done it with a brush and painting them on, and with the eyedropper, dropping them on. With the brush, I prefer to have them at least damp.

With the eyedropper, wet makes the colors wick more, spreading them out, and sometimes even separating them, which can have a cool effect. Dry, they don't spread so much. The danger with wet is that the colors wick into each other until everything is the same.
