seams #8 & #9

seam #8 buttonhole and bullions

seam #9

1st quadrants stitching complete so far. It is not quite as vivid as in reality. I am going to do all the main seams on each grouping- by then I will have decided if there will be a theme at all- then I will go back and add beads or maybe some sequins, or colonial knots, or some other smaller seams coming off the main ones.
So now comes a bit more thinking and planning. I need to make sure the colours are evenly spread out over the whole quilt. I don't want similar seams next to each other, and I am struggling with the piecing of the bottom left quadrant. It doesn't really flow like the rest, so I will leave it until last and decide if it needs redoing ( I think it will!)
So the theme. I had an idea a few day ago about stitching quotes into the quilt to fill the voids. Again, I am trying to be methodical in how I approach the embellishment, so each quadrant looks the same (balanced) on completion, and if I do it methodically, should I run out of time, I won't have one quadrant heavily embellished, and another looking just a bit sad. So, a plan, and sticking to it. How novel...(for me)

Your bullions look great, and I love the leaves you did under the top seam. Love that you are blogging your thinking.

I LOVE #8! The colors are awfully pretty on this work.

I hesitate to say this, I really do - I'm not a crazy quilter, what do I know, etc - but I think you're right about the bottom left quadrant not flowing like the others do. There I said it and I'd better press that "publish your comment" bit soon before I lose my nerve. The embroidery on this is exquisite, just perfect and deserves perfectly flowing piecing as well.

Oh Alice, don't ever hesitate to offer constructive thoughts!! I am happy to hear from people not so close to the project. Although I am not sure if you know what bit I am talking about. If you look on this post
http://nzjo.blogspot.com/2008/12/blue-cq.html
you will see the bottom left grouping of 4 blocks, and that is the "quadrant" I was talking about, not the bottom left block of this grouping...although I do see where you are coming from, but that is just a small quirk that will be balanced (I hope) out in the final piece.
Thanks
:)

Jo you're very generous and you're right, I was getting confused between blocks and quadrants.
