Black CQ- latest installment

Here we are with the border on. Getting the border on has lifted a huge amount of pressure off me...because I love it just the way it is!! So there won't be any pieced border, black or coloured , and the embroidery I had planned is also going to be scaled way back. There will be a little bit in the corners, but not much. I think the blocks need to speak for themselves.
This is also means I can spend more time on finishing up the blocks in the middle. In some places it is just a matter of one or two stitches to take a seam over the join in the blocks. It is a little difficult trying to match the right Sassa Lynne thread, but in most cases, close enough is good enough. You can see my little post it notes everywhere telling me what to do.
I am so freaking inspired by seeing this coming together as a quilt.....I am already planning next years. The idea has changed several times (today), but so far, it will involve cream(ish) piecing (curved - ah la Allie), lots of texture added with tatting, and embellishment in autumn shades.

Edited: Elizabeth's comment hit the nail on the head. The quilt is getting easier on the eye. The border now gives a difinitive boundery that tells the eye to "stop". While the centre is busy, busy, busy,  your brains knows it won't go on forever. I am going to stitch away finishing up the centre, then I will decide if I will do anything more than bind.

edited again: this was taken outside today. The colours are far better. The border will be blacker  once the quilted is batted (flannel sheet) and backed.

Oh, the plain black border is absolutely perfect! It offsets the beautiful quilt "innerds" just right! you've done a lovely job on it!

Jo ~ this is gorgeous! The black borders really pulled it together. I also love the way that extending the seam treatments into the next block makes it flow. Just beautiful!

Wow Jo ... I love the black border! You are so right...it is definitive...and tells the eye to stop. Awesome job, girl! Like MA...I'd love to see it in person...pics just never do quite capture the real beauty!

Jo it looks great !!
As the others say, also I would leave the border as it is. The plain black emphasis the gorgeous middle part. great work!

Jo, you must be so proud of this piece! The larger CQ's are just sooo impressive just for the sheer determination and hours it takes to get them done. And with your beautiful stitching skills, it couldn't get any better!

Hi Jo

This is a red ribbon winner. Just gorgeous and the plain border is perfect. Amazing how we manage to know when to stop and you sure did. I think MaryAnne, Marie and I need a field trip to see this in person. Possibly could persuade Allie to come along. Just dreaming.

I have loved seeing the blocks in Flickr - and all together they are fantastic - many thanks for sharing.
I'd be disappointed it had been completed if I didn't see that more will be coming! Connie.

I was worried that the pieced border would take away from the beauty of the blocks, but I see you've decided that, too. It is absolutely stunning!!

What can I say that hasn't already been said? It is a feast for the eyes. My favorite is the spider web in the upper right hand block.

I love everything you do and this is no exception, I'm impressed you can do something so big and equally perfect tiny things like your tags.
