More musings.....

I didn't realise I hadn't posted this days ago, so I have taken out all the witty rhetoric, and left you with the question...which I thought noone had any interest in becasue there were no comments!!

Thank you to all of you who left lovely comments on my last post. I think alot of my self imposed artist title phobia is because of the medium, being fabric. Give me paper and (whatever), then I would call myself an artist, at the very least "artistic". I guess I consider an artist as someone who earns a living from what they do (not that I do, not by a long shot). Kay Susans comment also got me thinking. I have posted an excerpt below. Let me know what you think.

"..I've just joined a co-operative. You don't have to have a qualification, just a love of what you do, it's a mixture of pro's, amateurs and hobbyists, but most of the 'trained' artists seem to have some kind of a 'message' and I don't. I just wonder if I can do it and give it a try. So, do I need a message to be an artist? Is that the difference between an artist and a crafter (in the REAL sense)- an artist has a message, a crafter gives and takes pleasure with their work?..."

Hi Jo - I have been writing along similar lines on http://paulahewitt.wordpress.com/2007/12/16/art-craft-or-both/. You should have left in the witty rhetoric - I love to read what others write.
