Pohutukawa

As I said yesterday, I was off to research native flora for Cheryls block. I spent quite a while at flickr, looking at pics of Pohutukawa flowers, and ended up doing them how I would of without looking..... The pohutukawa is a native New Zealand tree, and it has these wonderful flowers that bloom just on Christmas. The trees look fantastic with a profusion of red flowers against the green foliage. They are known as the New Zealand Christmas tree (fancy that).
Anyway, I am particularly pleased with how these have turned out, they actually look like pohutukawa flowers! yay.

Jo,
Your flowers are beautiful!! I haven't seen them. They looks like thistles, but tree flowers. It must be a wonderful scene.

Those are wonderful, Jo. I've never seen this flower in the wild, but would now recognize it if I were to. The Christmas Cactus blooms this time of year, too. Growers keep them in the dark until just before Christmas, then they will bloom when out in the light. Odd, eh?

These are very cool. I would love to see the real flowers. They would be a nice little change from poinsettias during the holidays.

By the way, I have not yet figured out what CQI, DYR and RR means... ??

P.S.: My second heart is ready!
