Can you say "tatting!!"

These treasures were a TradeMe (NZ ebay) buy. Even the first two pics don't show the amount that is here, well over 150 pieces. I am embarrassed to tell you what I paid for them. Far to little I assure you. The auction pics and description in no way prepared me for what I was going to receive.

I don't think the previous owner cared to much for them. The were in the box they came in, no bag or weather proofing, just a bit of string. I did however ask for some history on the from the seller. They were made by his father-in-law!! A bloke! He just died recently at the age of 94. I have asked if he tatted up until he died. The work is just exquisite, and some of them are huge. They are in excellent condition which makes me think they are quite recently made. They are just so beautiful, and although I haven't studied each one in detail, they all look to have not a stitch out of place. I feel incredibly lucky to own these now.

Now , on a totally different note, you must go and visit this blog - Cakewreck. This post comes with a warning though. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT visit this blog without some kind of incontinence protection. Scroll down about half way, and you will laugh your arse off, and you may just learn something should you ever have occasion to order a cake from a professional cake decorator or local bakery. (yes, people paid money for these cakes!). Please, get the Depends out before clicking on the link.

Wow exactly! They are gorgeous! Congratulations on finding such beautiful pieces. I have yet to see a tatted doily in person, only crocheted. What are your plans for them? Will you have them out to display?

Oh my...what a find!! It truly is amazing what men can do if they want to! I once worked with a fellow who did the most intricate petit point purses. You never would have guessed from looking at him either - a burly ex-football jock sort.

OMG...how awesome! Guess the seller really didn't have a clue as to the talent it takes to do such amazing work...let alone the value! Good on ya, gal!

Oh, my goodness Jo, you have tatted items for 10 lives. Some of them are too precious to cut up, aren't they?

What a WONDERFUL find... and I'm sure no one could use it more creatively than you will. As a fairly new tatter, I'm sure you are amazed -- as this not-so-newbie is!

Yes, men do tat. If you haven't been introduced to Tat Man, take a look here. He is quite prolific - at the bottom of this page, click Home to browse his work.
